After Implant Placement

Taking care of your dental implant is an important part of the recovery process. At Bijan Family Dental Practice dental office we will explain how they work and what is expected from patients when the dental implant procedure is finished. There are certain steps tooth replacement patients can take to ensure the implants heal correctly.

Are Dental Implants Affordable

There is a large variability in dental implant costs because no two persons' tooth loss is the same. At Bijan Family Dental Practice, our dental care specialists will provide personalized care for you depending on your goals, lifestyle, and budget. The only accurate way of learning the cost of dental implant procedures depends on a visit to our Fountain Valley dental implant experts for a dental implant consultation. With that said, it is worth digging into the many components, factors, and materials that go into the overall price of dental implants to replace natural teeth. Starting with tests.

Dental Implants vs Mini Implants

Both dental implants and mini implants are viable options for replacing missing teeth. They have become extremely popular because of their natural look and ability to restore various oral functions. So, what’s the difference between the two artificial tooth treatments?

As the name suggests, mini implants are smaller in size (and, therefore, lower in cost) compared to regular dental implants. The average diameter of mini dental implants is in the 1.8 to 2.4 mm range. Dentists often used mini implants as a temporary solution until regular implants arrived. However, more dentists are beginning to use mini implants as a permanent solution for patients.

Taking Care of the Implants After Surgery

Following the surgical procedure, do not touch the implant site. This can cause additional bleeding and might cause them to shift. For the rest of the day, bite down gently and eat soft foods. Do not drink hot liquids either. Patients should continue this until the anesthesia wears off.

General tenderness is to be expected. Ice packs can help alleviate swelling. Make sure to rest, avoid smoking, and abstain from any alcohol for the first 72 hours following the procedure. Patients can still brush and floss carefully to maintain proper oral hygiene but need to do so carefully, avoiding vigorous mouth rinsing.

What Are the Risks Associated with Dental Implants

When dental implants are installed, you can experience mixed emotions. The thought of being able to eat your favorite foods once more and having a stunning smile thrill many people who choose to have dental implants implanted. However, being anxious about the post-operative recovery phase is expected. In particular, the implants must osseointegrate, or fuse, with the surrounding bone to be effective. Apart from the long recovery period, which could last up to three months, some risks are also associated with dental implants treatments.

How Long Is the Recovery Process for Dental Implants

Are you thinking of getting a new smile? Dental implants could be a fantastic choice for you. If you have any dental problems, dental implants are a fantastic method to have a gorgeous smile. Dental implants require more time to heal than the majority of dental repairs. Dental implants may last a lifetime and are a safe, reliable solution to replace lost teeth. Compared to other solutions, they are easier to maintain and more aesthetically beautiful. The installation and healing of the implant, which requires surgery, takes up most of the recuperation period.

Caring for Implants in the Following Days

Anesthesia will have worn off by the next day, making the surgical site more painful and tender. Patients still need to be diligent in their care of the surgical site.

Control the Bleeding

It is normal for bleeding to continue from the implant site for up to 72 hours after the surgery. The best way to control this is to gently bite down on gauze for an hour or so. Repeat this a few times a day. If the bleeding is excessive, a moistened tea bag will work as well. If the bleeding continues after 72 hours, contact our offices right away for further instructions.

Manage the Discomfort

The anesthesia should help to manage any pain or issues after the surgery but as it wears off patients may feel a little discomfort for a few days after surgery. Some patients will have soreness in their throat and difficulty swallowing. Patients should not worry, these are normal. Our professionals will instruct you on other options to help with any discomfort and swelling. Patients should continue to take their antibiotics to avoid infections as well.

Get Enough Rest

It is important to rest following dental implant surgery to ensure proper healing. Though most of our patients are fine going back to work the next day, those with jobs requiring strenuous activity should take a few days off. All patients should avoid vigorous exercise and exertion for at least one week. Getting plenty of sleep will help the healing process.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is always important but no more so than after dental implant surgery. Brush your teeth gently and avoid contacting the implant to maintain positive oral health. Rinse the mouth with a teaspoon of salt and warm water to remove any extra food after each meal. Avoid electric toothbrushes and flossers for a few days to avoid the potential for any damage. Do this for at least a week before going back to your normal mouth wash routines.
